Someone on one of the FB groups hs just asked a very simple, but very good question. I think the answer is yes, but not 100%.
Q. (this is for a P2 xc70, but still applies to the P3) . Does AWD work in reverse? Hmmmmmm. |

Just a bit more info on this…. Apart from the signal from the TCM, the AWD system doesn’t actually detect whether the car is in reverse, the wheel speed sensors can’t tell and the readings are not affected by the direction of travel.

Even the oldest systems worked in both directions, since for them, the hydraulic pump was driven by a speed difference between front and rear wheels. Now the pump is electric, so it makes even less of a difference.
