Default Headlight adjustment bolt not working

Hello.

One of the issues I encountered this week at the MOT is that the right headlight was set up too high. Today I was doing different reparations at the car and decided to quickly check that box out of the to-do list.

Since it was daylight, I had the brilliant idea to use the left headlight as a reference by tightening its bolt all the way down counting the turns. The idea was, to then bolt the right headlight bolt all the way down as well and then undo as many turns as I counted for the left headlight.

The problem is: there was no end point for the bolt on the left headlight, and it looks as if the bolt had gotten detached inside of the regulator. Now the left headlight is pointing all the way up and I can not bring it down. Thankfully, the right headlight was set up correctly.

Do you know if it's possible to open this regulator and check if the bolt came out of place inside?

Hi Radler, what model car do you have, and what year?

Sorry, I added it to my signature yesterday but somehow it doesn't show in my message. It is a 1999 V70 2.4L. Thank you.

OK, so to fix this I'd take the headlight unit out and remove the glass, then you'll be able to get at the adjuster mechanism and reattach the adjuster thread.

Headlight comes out very simply, remove the electrical connector and 3 x long bolts. Then the glass is just held on with a number of simple clips, the rest will be obvious.

Thanks, mate. I'll try that out next week.
