Hi guys, I thought I'd provide an update to what has been an unusual week....

I was contacted by my old friend Alan from the north (who turned 90 recently) asking if I could help him find 'an old Volvo - the last of the boxy ones - a nice example'. I told him that, if I still had my V70 T5 it would've been the perfect car for him - offering a great balance of class, comfort and performance - but alas I'd sold it back in March so I would see what I could find otherwise.
Leaving him to the rest of his evening I thought I'd best check out the current offerings on eBay when to my pleasant surprise there she was - V290 DYD !
Clearly still with Luke, a top bloke not too far away from me, the description revealed that he had shown the car a serious amount of attention since buying it from me so I called up my old friend Alan the next morning with the good news who excitedly issued forth the order to 'make it his....'
Having more or less sorted out the logistics of it all over the next couple of days a rather dejected Alan then called me up to apologetically bow out, asking me to sadly 'put the deal in reverse' as he'd been quoted a colossal sum for insurance.
Apparently 90 years old + Performance Car = £££££...

I called up the seller Luke but not before I'd had a brew and a little think.
It didn't take long to make up my mind to bring home the T5 and the following day she arrived on my drive....looking and sounding better than ever....both of us smiling at the surreal nature of what had happened.

Its a good feeling knowing that I can continue ownership once again and this weekend we have a road trip planned.

Luke is a top guy and a proper car nut who is extremely knowledgeable, a gentleman to deal with and I thank him for raising the standard of this car a good few notches.

Alan meanwhile, is still needing a comfortable load lugger with some age and class...so, answers on a postcard to the usual address please guys.

Hi XCR

Has your friend checked what the insurance would be for other V70 or 850 variants? That might help us know what he is looking for.

eg a V70 10V ?

Steve

Any insurance is going to be expensive when you get over 90 sadly. I remember trying to renew my mums Honda Jazz when she turned 90 and some wouldn't even quote.

I have a lovely 740 with one owner from new and 70k that I'm thinking about possibly selling. Performance wise it couldn't be further away from a T5

I wouldn't have thought so. He's not an internet user so I would need to pass reg numbers to him to enable quotes on potential cars.
I think it will be a process of elimination.
Cheers.
