Default Gearbox jolt

Hi. I have a 2012 xc60 d5 r design with 93k. It drives perfect but occasionally it jolts when you select drive. It's fine in the gears when driving and also no jolt in reverse. It doesn't do it all the time just occasionally. I was wondering if it needed a software download. Thanks all

I'd be interested to hear what others may say as mine does it as well, but not often, mine is just coming up to 38k

Have your motors got the latest software versions from Volvo?

Have a read of this

If you’ve had your car dealer serviced the software updates will have already been done. If not, call em up and ask them. Harsh shifting can be caused by several issues like software, oil, valve body but generally a reset and software upgrade is usually the opening gambit.

I had this issue on a 2015 car and there is a software update specifically for this issue - in my case it worked 100%.

Whilst the software of key systems is updated at every main dealer full service, when checked the TCM (transmission control module) had never been updated on my car despite having 5 such services.

Some members on here have overcome a intermittent issue by forcing the gearbox to re-adapt by selecting drive, moving forward a few feet, select N then R, move back a few feet, repeat 30 odd times. This sounds fanciful I know but there is logic to say it’s worth a try and it costs nothing.

If the car has more than 70k on it, or you do a lot of towing, I would get the transmission oil changed as well.

An interesting read, thanks. I've only experienced it a couple of times so I'll keep an eye on it, although I've driven a lot lately and not noticed anything unusual.

My V40 CC used to do it if you changed from N into D when it was hot.

A software update and multiple oil drop / refills almost cured it to the point it was barely noticeable
