Unhappy S40 2.0 Consumption

Hello there - First post here...

Roight, what should I be looking at for my R-reg S40 2.0?
I'm getting just under 30mpg and that's motorway miles! The performance is a bit rubbish too...

Many thanks.

S40's, whatever the engine, cannot be described as economical However the usual suspects are thermostat, ECU temp sender, air filter etc. You don't say when it was last serviced but a "stage 0" may be order. This is plugs/oil/filters etc.

If it's any consolation my 1.8 does about 29/20 mpg under normal usage, 34ish when I do long journeys (once had a freak result 36.85mpg) but with a dodgy thermostat & temp sender I saw 25mpg used normally....

If you can find the gear you could monitor the engine sensors while driving which can be educational...

Default Ahhh....

Sorry - I topped up the oil (quite a bit so almost a replacement), replaced the spark plugs and air filter when I first got her in early Autumn... So it was almost a basic service.

I was going to do the oil and oil filter but ran out of time...

Cheers
Andy
