Default Sunroof Issue

Hi to you all. My particular car is a 2005 (05) V70 D5 SE Geartronic. It is also fitted with most of if not all of the extras.
Just before Christmas I had an issue with my sunroof,it would not function. It was functioning perfectly well and attaining all positions until that one occasion.
I had checked the fuse and that was OK.
A week or so ago I attempted to operate it and BINGO it began to function again.
It has now ceased to function once again. Fortunately it was in the closed position.
Is this a known issue and is it linked to the practice of multiple earthing ?
I have recently discovered that my rear parking aids/sensors are no longer intermittently going off permanently when reverse is engaged. They are functioning as was their intended purpose.
Your help would be very much appreciated.

Thank You.

A filing alarm module can cause sunroof problems - your car is the right age, probably older. The internal siren battery fails and leaks over the PCB causing various problems. It's normally accompanied by an Alarm Service required warning and the odd false alarm. The solution is either a new module or cut the old one open and replace the battery - success depends on whether the old one has leaked all over the PCB

Hi RM9551. Thank you for your most enlightening reply. Yes I have experienced seemingly odd messages and especially when I know for absolute certainty that the alarm has not been triggered.
I have also seen 'Alarm Service Required' but put that down to multiple earthing issues.
I put it down to the often criticised multiple earthing of components.
I have a brand new Varta Silver Dynamic battery and absolutely secure terminals so I have ruled that possibility out.
I am even more intrigued than previously and especially as my Haynes manual makes absolutely no mention of a back-up battery. Indeed the manual only makes a passing reference to a back-up battery.
Where will I find it please and will I need Volvo designed tools to get to it?

Thank you.

The alarm module is under the drivers side front arch, you need to take wheel off and drill out the lower rivets from the plastic liner to give enough room to access the siren.

The quick alternative is to kill the siren by pulling fuse 38 from the drivers side dash fuse panel (bottom right fuse I think).

Hi reggit That was quick, thank you indeed. I think the long fix is a better weather job.
Will removing the fuse reinstate the sunroof functions?

Regards & Thank you.

I can't say it will restore your sunroof functions, but it will eliminate the alarm siren as being the cause.

Hi again reggit. Yes I am aware that the siren/alarm will not function but that would not be an issue. I very rarely lock the car/activate the alarm from the remote. It is done with the key because I did have a few false alarms earlier last year and on days that would not have rocked the car and set it off.
Locking it with the key appears to have stopped all of that but I have had the occasional Alarm Service Required message.
Oddly enough when I used the Fob to lock and alarm the car the driver seat would move from the set and memorised position and go into something that I had never programmed.

Thank you again.

Hi Mike. Yes I am as OK as it can be at present thank you. I guess that you are the same outnumbered as on the CT forum!!!! The one that I cannot participate in albeit I can currently still sign-in.
I am further intrigued by your reference to 'Batteries'. Does the PCB/module with the siren contain two batteries or have I got to employ a search party from my Volvo dealership?
I will investigate the links that you have provided.
The colour of your Volvo is a truly stunning one when cleaned and polished.
I had a Rover 825I Sterling in Bolero,I think somewhat similar but more towards a towards a Brown/Burgundy tone.

Regards,

John (aka TheTravellingRooster,TheCyclingRooster & TheRoosteronaBianchi).
