XC90 2016 Tailgate/Boot problem
When I press the button to release the boot, it opens a few inches, then beeps and closes shut, as though it has detected an interference and is shutting for safety reasons. The only way to open it is to manually open it, but then the button to close it doesn't work.
Not sure if the sensor (don't know where this is?)needs cleaning or it's something else. Any advice greatly appreciated. |

The shocks on the auto opening/closing tailgates go wrong quite often. If this is the case, you will need to replace them. Around 500 just for the parts but its a DIY job.
Check the video here and see if it looks similar to yours. Not very detailed but I am not youtuber https://youtu.be/Vf8RJQ-9Wzg

Have tried opening the tailgate manually then holding the close button for over 3 seconds until a beep is heard (setting up max opening position) then try opening it normally.
Might be worth cleaning foot opening sensor as well.

Thanks for the suggestions.
If I press the close button down, it does beep. Do I then close it manually and try again as normal or is there another step? I've also noticed that sometimes it does open as it should when I press the release button on boot or key, but then nothing will happen when I press the close button? How would I know if it is the shocks? Many thanks |

There is a control module for the tailgate but I think the most likely issue will be the shocks.
I guess, there is no way to know for sure without replacing the schock but I think the module will give you an error if it was the module itself.

Thanks. I'll give the reset a go.
For the shocks replacement, are they also referred to as the gas struts which lift up the boot? Just want to make sure I'm talking about the right parts! |
