Default Amazing service

Today I emailed my neatest Volvo dealer, why? Because after 6 years of ownership and a 13 year old car, I thought I should push the boat out and put a new battery on her. Not that she’s let me down, starts straight away, stop/start can be a bit iffy, everything works.
So describe my vehicle make model year etc and was told I need a new aux battery at £175 fitted. ( yes the little one tucked under the plastic)) How do these technicians do that? What service.

Hmm, I'm pretty sure Clan has previously said the secondary battery rarely needs replacing

Stop start issues are usually due to the level of charge in the main battery as this is the one that actually does the starting. I'd go down that route first with a battery from Tayna rather than Volvo

Yes, thanks. I wasn’t worried about the aux batt. But they have now come back with £325 inc VAT and fitting for starter batt. Well that ain’t going to happen.

Wow!

If you're happy to fit the battery yourself, I would recommend Tayna. Just watch that they give you the correct battery size if you use your registration number. The one their website recommended was a completely different size to the original Volvo battery in my car so I had to search manually

I've just checked again and the same battery is now 50% more so still worth shopping around. Still way cheaper than Halfords though

Battery choice, prices okay and size is correct. 096/096AGM
Do I go for Yuasa, Varta, Exide or Bosch?

Exide is what Volvo used from the factory.

I have a Yuasa. It was cheaper than Exide at the time and it had a 5 year warranty. No complaints.

I went for this from Battery Group

Exide EK700 Start-Stop AGM 12V 70Ah 760A car battery
Article-No: 9882403

Good price + quick delivery

I also bought an auxiliary as the car is 11, so thought it would be worth it while I had the trim loosened.

EXIDE EK091 AGM AUXILIARY CAR BATTERY
Article-No: 61105

Minor tweaking of vent pipe needed, but nothing too challenging

Ring the parts dept and ask for a price for the starter battery. I can't understand how a starter battery for a Mk1 XC60 can be more than around £150 - £170 tops. Given that it's 10mins to change if that ask how can they possibly justify £150 labour?
