Unfortunately bikes stand out like a sore thumb at the moment Dave, particularly on the seafront at Hunstanton (which I suspect is more or less deserted).

:-)

Stay safe.

Fair point Alan and not being a biker, one i wouldn't have realised until you pointed it out.

Of course we're both forgetting the most important bit here - the ice cream shop is shut!

Default 1980 Car Prices

Good morn Dave,

See Chris's post (that we hijacked a bit). I've just done an eBay search on 1980 cars - and all of a sudden they are all silly money (I'm guessing because they are MoT exempt now and tax free next April).

Maybe the RB is worth a bit now? It doesn't make any difference though - it probably won't be for sale until I get the dementia and Dan has me moved into an annex at the bottom of the garden.

Stay safe.

Default The Beast

Dave,

I found a photo of that Toyota Supra I was talking of in Chris's thread, but I didn't want to hijack it any further, so I've posted it here:

... what a car that was - spin the wheels in the lower gears and drift around roundabouts. I wish I had it now (would be worth £15,000!).

Stay safe.

Alan

PS. That photo was dated 2002. I've just checked the MoT history and H547CUF was last tested in 2008 (passed). I suspect it was written off (easy thing to do with a car like that) or scrapped (what a pity) a decade or so ago.

I think a lot of people are realising new cars are disposable Alan and have decided if they're going to pay for something to sit on the driveway, they'll have something they can repair and actually like.

I had the previous gen Celica (the first of the pop-up headlamp models and what spawned the Celica Supra before the Supra became a model in its own right) and liked it a lot. Quite nippy despite being a 2.0 in a relatively heavy body (for the time) and i daresay if i still had it, would be worth a good amount now.

I think that is right Dave, plus us Brits (in particular) are afflicted with a strong sense of nostalgia in our national ethos. We don't like things changing too much. Just look at the housing stock - lots of Victorian places that are the wrong size and shape for life today, so we adjust out lives to fit (and then re-fit the Belfast sink that was taken out in 1970 to make it a bit more quaint). Americans would have replaced them with more modern houses by now, but that is not our way.

The same applies to older cars and bikes (and other machines). I like the idea of having the RB on the drive, and I'm looking forward to changing the head when the last few bits arrive next week. I wouldn't be trying that with our Porsche, and probably not even with the Skoda Superb.

The Celica was a pretty car; I really liked the Supra though: 3 litre DOHC straight 6 with 24 valves and fuel injection, discs all round, IRS (I think a LSD as well on that car) and pop up headlamps. It was pretty cool when people were still driving around in Ford Capri tractors :-)

Stay safe.

That's what i call my Rover mainly because it is. It outperforms all the other 827s i've ever come across, why i don't know but it does. Being FWD i don't get the sideways action though.
