Plastic door panel mounting plugs/clips??
Hello, I do hope this is the right place for this post. I have a 89 740 Volvo, the car of my dreams and recently got a good condition scrap car of the same model, the interior and other cosmetic's thing are in top condition...unlike my old girl whom has been around a fair bit but with out the love.
My partner is working on stripping the engine and more taxing of tasks for a first timer like me... so all going well in that department. I have been working from the boot forwards (internal) and have replaced all the back floor panels and back seats and was working on the rear door panels today. I took the ones off the scrap car and left most of the (? I have no idea what they are called - sorry) mounting plug/clips on but on my model things were a little different and to my horror I broke most of the clips and now despret to find some more. At the bottom of the panel, the clips where red and by the door side light, this clip was blue. I know I may not have made myself very clear as I am not too in to car talk, this being my first re-fit, so please bare with me... I can take pictures tomorrow of the broken clips if that helps. Thank you for any help on finding these clips. |

Hi,
Welcome to the forums and enjoy your stay here.. As for clips, try a volvo specialist scrap merchant like Salvo (or any near where you are). Salvo do mail order too, if need be. You could also get the clips from a dealer, but expect to pay a premium for them... As I remember it, the clips on the back doors (there are 3 of them?) are a combo of a fixed plastic "bar" fixed to the door and a square U spring type clip that will then clip into place when the door panel is in place (through a square hole in the bottom of the door panel).. There should also be whitl nylon stud-type clips that pop into the door, which are fixed on the door panel.. Des. . .

I've broken a fair few of my car's stud-type trim clips in the past, where they attach to the door, but I have managed to re-secure them in their retaining holes using strong all-purpose glue

If your still stuck, let me know what clips you want as i've got them, broken so many 700's for bits over the years that i just chuck every screw, clip into a pot when stripping a car.

Welcome to the forum,
As I remember these clips are only pence from a Volvo agent, second hand ones tend to be brittle and don`t always fit properly

The white 'U' clips for the bottom of the door cards should be no problem from a breaker.
There are the white plastic studs for the door card which can break easily when being removed and then there are the longer red studs that are used for the door speaker covers and also for the door cards. These red ones are also easy to break. eBayer 'Volvo-Vince' often has packs of these trim clips available and perhaps a visit to his shop site could help.
