Are you sure the chassis legs are bent rather than the crash bar and crash cans etc?
More specifically it sounds like the won't be bent - rather than twisted over slightly. If that's the case the subframe is likely toast as well :-(

If you still have the car, whatever you do do not let them take it away until everything is sorted out[i.e. whether the insurance will let you buy it back or you decide to keep it/repair it].

The chassis has definitely pulled over slightly on both sides and the nearside leg is up a bit. The very front of the chassis where the bumper bolts to it is very distorted too. Funnily the nearside headlight which also took a hit, actually still works. I can see the light beam pointing up slightly.
The sub-frame has no damage whatsoever, but i can see where the sub-frame bolts to the chassis that the chassis is now about 10mm out of line at the front end. The bolts that hold the sub-frame at the front is at a slight angle! its not the sub-frame that's out, i can see the chassis is out slightly. It really isn't too far out. Both wings are undamaged amazingly. The bonnet shuts but there is a 15mm gap on one side where its pulled over and slightly overlapping the other side Rudi, i think you need to start offloading your cars. Why so many? :-)

I seem to get offered them for some reason.A few I have saved from going to scrap.
One with an Autobox fault which I never seem to get the time to fix. I'd consider selling some of them but on the other hand can't be bothered to advertise them and have to deal with Joe Public. It's not just Diesels mind.I've got 3 project R's aswell. Going back to yours and your detailed description of the damage I would say it definitely needs a body shop and a pull with a body dozer to realign it as a minimum. Sounds like Rudi and Dean need to get together to produce one decent low mileage car.

Sorry to hear of your accident.
A previous car of mine was written off by a drunk driver and I should really have considered buying it off the insurance company and putting it back on the road. |

I had an accident a few years ago in a 6 year old Skoda. Some fool brake tested me on the motorway and I lost the back end as I swerved. Lift off oversteer. Anyway, that twisted the chassis and it ended up on a jig. Insurance fixed it, but it wasn't cheap and was right at the threshold of the write off margin for them. Looking back, I would have preferred them to have written it off as it didn't drive the same after. That bill was north of 3k.
Sorry to say, but if it needs jig work, given the age and value, I wouldn't be surprised if they wrote it off. |

The insurance are writing it off. Its just working out a value. I am trying for £1500, they are saying £1000 to £1200. I might see if we can agree on £1300.
I wont be able to replace it with another one for any less, considering its age and mileage. In fact i'm pretty sure i wont find one as good again, unless i pay stupid money. They said i can buy it back at 10% of the agreed value, so its a no brainer, then decide weather to repair or strip it for parts. The engine is the best part and can be seen running and driven!

Find any 850 TDI adverts, even older adverts of cars for sale and show the insurance company the prices. I would doubt you will get one for £1500 so worth sticking with it until you get a good price.
It's always best to have an agreed insurance price on an older car. I upped my insurance value this year on the 850 as there were several with more miles and lower spec selling at the time for a lot of money. I'll review it again next year and possibly increase the value again
