Smile Oil recommendations?

My S40 2.0T is due a service next week and I have some long drives across Europe planned this year. Would it be worth paying for a good quality synthetic oil and if so which one should I go for?
Thanks in advance.

I use Castrol Magnatec. (Mechanic and Volvo recommend)
Make sure you use Shell V-Power.
In my country we do the kms in the heat...none of these SHORT bunny hop distances through Europe!

Others say Mobil 1 is the best.

Volvo specify a minimum of a 40WT for the X40 turbo. I personally use Redline or 76 Racing 10W40 synthetic Oil and both have been excellent and more importantly, no more expensive that popular oils like Mobil 1. Oil is indeed the lifeblood of the engine so make sure you use one of good quality.

What grade of oil would be reccomended the handbook seems a bit vauge and autodata 2003 suggests 10w30 or 10w40 but only semi-synthetic for the 2.0T, am doing a full service this week and want to know whats best, and what grade to get.

I was thinking 10w40 fully synthetic, but as both autodata and my local motor factors say otherwise to use just semi synthetic...

Hopefully some light can be shed on this.

Thanks

For this country, 10W 40 Semi Synth is recommended.

Surely as stated in the handbook that fully synthetic 5w40 has the same top end temp rating as 10w40 but has a wider bottom end range. So shouldnt that be better?

5W 40 could be too thin and you may, I stress may, end up with excessive oil consumption.

pretty sure that should be ok. 5w is the cold viscosity (w = winter) its the 40 that relates to working temp (viscosity at 100 degrees i think) carbible.com has reams of info on oil.
