Where is the CTS located? I have ordered a fuel pump relay which will arrive tomorrow so i'll try that but i'm not holding out much hope. as soon as the temp gauge gets to between a quarter and half way, touch the gas and it dies, so i'm not sure if its fuel related but i'll try the new fuel pump relay tomorrow.

Thanks, as that is where the pipe was that I was trying to replace so maybe I've dislocated something. Problem is you can see very little under there and I'm not totally sure what I'm looking for, do they break easily or is there a connector that I might have dislodged? Beginning to think its the CTS over the fuel pump relay but its hard when you have no idea what you are doing!

if the temp sensor is duff, the computer reverts to a preset map. In fact, on LH 2.4 you can unplug pretty much every sensor excluding crank angle and it will still start and run albeit not well.
A logical test sequence will be a lot better than guessing here. Next time it happens, check for spark and fuel. Work backward to identify the fault |

Definitely has it - in fact as a 1997 yours MAY be OBD-2 compliant. The history became a little foggy at that stage and most were not. If you look in the centre storage box between the front seats, there is a clip-out panel in the middle at the bottom. Pulling it out reveals the diagnostics plug.

Hello James again ;-)
Sorry my fault. I didn't read carfully enough and thought you know it will be a pump related problem. Your car is with OBD and has the diagnostoc socket covered in the middle armrest. You will need a obd-reader. The 1997 version doesn't come with the lovely self diagnostic stuff with blink code. like aardvarkash10 wrote, the LH2.4 system is very simple and easy to find the fault. 99% of all problems are easy to find. Check first spark if the engine doesn't start. If no spark, two prob's: anti-theft-system (1997 will be with) cps, crankshaft position sensor. At the end of the engine on top of the bellhouse. you will find a LH2.4 diagnostic and fault finder, even for the later version, in the internet, on my scrappy phone I'm too lazy to find this. good luck, Kay |

i was under the impression that even the later 940s were not OBD2 compliant. if mine is, that would be great, I'd love to just be able to plug one of those readers in and get the code relating to whats wrong! helps a total novice like me!
I'm sure its not the anti theft system (i dont use the fob to lock the car, i just use the key. it starts if left for a bit anyway)
