Default 1999 S70 2.5 Petrol Auto - spares or repair

Hello,

I was hoping to keep my 1999 S70 for a few more years, but having been told by the garage that it will cost me A LOT of money to repair, I have decided to sell it and get another new-to-me Volvo. The problems with the car include ABS, disc pads, suspension, among others, and it is located in S. Bucks.

This might suit someone who is looking for a car to tinker with. I would like about £350 for it, so if you are interested, please make me an offer in a private message.

Does it have an MOT? What are the list of things doing for it to pass?

Is the car really that expensive to repair? I've an s70 and replaced most parts, and some garages will say '' that work is more then the cars worth '' really, thanks Mr mechanic for that useful information! You can get most parts cheap online and be a shame to give up on a car you was hoping to keep.

What parts have you replaced and did you do them yourself? I think thats the problem if you are paying a garage to do the work. Have u replaced shockers, exhaust, steering rack etc?

Your right you can get parts cheap online, and then some garages will fit your own parts. But u have to be really sure they are the correct parts and that can be tricky. Either they supply wrong parts, or there are several options for the same part and they have to see it to make sure right one etc

Unfortunately, the price I was quoted by the garage was much higher than my budget allowed - in fact it was more than the price I paid for the car when I bought it 3 years ago.

I've had all shockers, timing belt, water pump, rear springs, most of the mounts, discs, pads, anti roll bars, track rod ends, maf sensor, coolant sensor, temp gauge wipers, tyres, various bulbs and two wheel bearings and service items. Most of the work has been done by garages and really the only time I ordered wrong parts was from eBay as some sellers haven't a clue what they are selling but if you use euro car parts or sites like micks garage or even your local car parts supplier them they get you the right parts.

I see people go through 2-3 used cars in 2-3 years because they refuse to pay money on labour or repairs but if they stuck with the first car and got it repaired it would have worked out cheaper in the long run and they have a car they have repaired and got to a good standard.
