Wobbly gearstick?
Hi all,
Since driving my new 240 around a bit I've got concerned about the wobbling gearstick. There's no noise, and no vibration felt through the steering, the pedals or the seat of my pants, but the gearstick wobbles from side to side when travelling along. Does anyone have any ideas what it is? Is it normal? Thanks, Will |

This is usually caused by broken or soft engine or gearbox mounting rubber.

Is it the whole gearbox wobbling, or the gearlever loose on its mounting?
If you undo the clips holding the rubber boot under the carpet, you can see the tail of the box and the clips holding the gear lever, and ought to be able to pinpoint what is moving. |

I've not checked under the carpet yet as I noticed the whole engine is wobbling therefore pretty sure it's a mount. How easy are they to change - Haynes says one spanner but I'm not sure!

They are not to bad to do but there is a technique. Do a search as I posted a guide for someone whose mechanic had problems - it was easily sorted with my guidance.
