Default Decisions, Decisions....can't have what I'd like

My current XC60 T8 Inscription Pro will be three in September and paid off in October, so with the MY22 models now available I have some decisions to make:
  1. Keep the current car - new models are just minor changes, but, but ERAD and that 50% deposit
  2. Go with a new T8 Inscription Pro
  3. Go with a new T8 R-Design Pro

The Inscription Pro is available with Blond interior matching my current car and the light interior with skyroof is really spacious and different. But, the wheel choices are yuck, the back view is boring and no exterior styling that was available with mine.

The R-Design Pro is a more sporty look that I like, the standard wheels look good and the rear view is more appealing. However, no Blond interior so back to boring black.

Things I won't be spec'ing on this vehicle:
  • 22" wheels, they might look great and get lots of stares but this is the UK with horrible pot holed roads and 22" wheels seem to attract curbs.
  • Bowers & Wilkins sound system, it looks great but the sound is disappointing and definitely doesn't justify the £2,500 premium, will go with Harman Kardon

I'm assuming both models have an auxiliary engine for remote start/heating?

So, what would you do?

R Design.

You’ve probably got the hang of avoiding curbs and avoiding potholes by now.

Buy a warranty and keep the current car.

There’s no mention of the aux fuel fired heater in the MY22 Ed. 2 price list for the XC60 or XC90 T8 - I wonder if this has been dropped in favour of the electric aux heater that has always been used in some markets

Big loss to the T8 spec if that’s gone

+1 on this.
Imho the new cars aren’t that different to warrant the cost of “upgrading”

Keep your current car. Novelty wears off very quickly.

But then I like to own a car rather than effectively renting it and will keep it for a long time.

These cars are very modern and will be for a VERY long time. IMO the other manufacturers have a lot of catching up.

You own a reliable modern car, why on earth would you get rid of it?

Let the faux rich buy the new one, lose 25k and then you buy it at three or four years of age from Volvo direct with a full years selekt warrenty. You must be stupid to buy a brand new car!

I could afford a XC90 brand new on the debit card but why would you??

People want the latest fangle dangle, but novelty is huge and then you scratch your head thinking what the **** was I thinking.

I bought a Volvo V40 from new, NEVER again. I ballooned it in the end so I actually owned it. Paid, all in all, about £23,000.... I could pick one up now for £8000... madness. Like you say, approved used or a reputable garage......but if you have money to burn then go ahead.

We got to the 3 year point, could have changed but instead decided to take the warranty extension and kept it another 2 years it just felt a bit too new still to change.

At 5 years its still been a good deposit on a new car.More to come on the new car in another thread when we've had it a bit longer but so far very happy with the upgrade and from our existing MY17 to the new MY21 it feels like quite a different car.
Was concerned at the 22's on R Design Pro, but with the 4C air I honestly can barely tell any difference in ride quality to my previous 20s. They do look and feel vulnerable though!!

Going from Inscription to R Design Pro, the R Design feel no less plush than the Inscription, in fact the combination of blonde, charcoal headlining, B&W and joystick style gear selector on the new car makes it feel even nicer inside.

Also, ask your dealer to have a look around at what might be available from ex management vehicles. Ours is ex management, 6 months old, 8k miles, fully loaded spec, but a 26k saving on the new list price, it was a no brainer against a new car.

I like a new car. But I think you could park a MY22 next to your 19 and one would hardly be able to tell the difference. Indeed from what I have seen on other threads the spec could be lower as some have suggested they have diluted the spec for some penny pinching...

I would say keep for a couple of years until you REALLY want the new car..!

Or go left field and try a different brand...
