Just had mine through for the Sterling David, £4 less than last year! Similar to yours but without breakdown cover.

I'd definitely shop round for a better deal, sounds like they're trying it on to me!

Hi Dave, I think they're having a Laaarf, but I've mailed them to explain themselves.

Nothing EVER changes with Insurers! If they don't bend go elsewhere with someone 'reputable' (joke!!). They are all tarred with the same brush. Can't think how many insurers have passed through my hands over the years. A majority more than once!!

Currently I am with Hagerty for the 745 and Churchill via Go Compare for the V70. Yes, I know I am past my sell by date but the two fully comp. with specified mileage, max no claims, and lowest standard excesses, etc, came in at £520 for the year.

Bob.

I was faced with a similar hike in price the year before last.
Turns out the computer had sent me the bill before applying all the discounts!
They were very apologetic.

Possible translation - they deliberately left off the discounts hoping you wouldn't notice, when you did they came out with a cowshed confetti excuse, blamed the computer and reinstated your earned discount.

Hi Bob, may be a silly question, but was that each or for both, don't know your sell by date, but I'm now 75 and think that has a lot to do with the increase they have now quoted me.

Without giving Bobs age away (mainly because i don't know it exactly) you're both in the same group David, i've highlighted the bit in Bobs post about it being for both cars.
What won't be helping your premium is the area you live in, most insurers rate the general area in and around Manchester fairly high, likewise for London and other big cities.

I know when i moved from just outside the M25 to a rural Cambridgeshire location i suddenly had a cheque back from my insurers. The premium down there had been ~£400 for the year, i was paying monthly and about halfway through the year.
If memory serves the cheque was for about £140 so worth having as well - when i queried the reason for it, it was all down to postcodes and crime rates, it had dropped very significantly because i'd moved away from a high-crime area.

That might be the be-all-and-end-all of why your premium is higher than many others. I know on another forum i'm on, people who live in Manchester are paying about twice what others are paying in more rural areas.

Hi Dave, Yes I know about the postcode hikes and I accept that, but what FJ have now quoted, a £132.29 increase, I find hard to justify, like I said I've mailed them about it so I'll have to see what they have to say. David

Might pay to go on confused.com and/or comparethemarket.com and get some more quotes David. It's a huge hike, both in terms of money and percentage increase, i'd certainly be looking for alternatives!

Also if you have other quotes, if they come back and tell you there's nothing they can do you can simply tell them you can get it a lot cheaper elsewhere (assuming that is the case) and after they finish choking on their quinoa or Quiche Lorraine, they might actually do something to help.
