Default wiper woes..you know when you start one job and ..

Hi all..having trouble sorting out sluggish and mostly non existent wiper operation..in the process of trying to diagnose source of problem have popped one of the cables off the the drivers side wiper cam..thankfully after feeling its time to hit the whiskey the cable seems to be intact and still looped off the cam..As its the one close to the firewall its proving tricky to pop back on..I will have another go in a while but was wondering if there is a knack to this.I dont want to take the dash out unless i have too. What started off as being an irritation is becoming a little more daunting..Regards..HJ.

The dash blower grille should lift out (it’s probably loose!) and I think I took the glove box assembly out to get access....

Well..after having another try at slipping the cable over the cam i have come to realisation that i might have to undo locking nut and run the cable loop around cam trying to keep the integrity of the loop..there is access to do this..I dont know what else to do?..Hj.

Right..I lossened lock nut on end of rack and removed cable to wrap loop around cam..make sure you get the crossover of the loop the right way ..IE..the end that has the lock nut must be in front (towards yourself) as it returns to the end of rack..I hope that makes some sort of sense..Anyway with a very poor motor its seems to have held...On to the motor itself now..it bugs me that after all i have done today i have not even started original job..Guinness time...HJ.

Morning all..Removed wiper motor this weekend gone, dismantled and cleaned and bench tested and luckily not too bad inside magnets are held in with clips so not that..commutator on armature looked a little scored but not burnt or shrunk..brushes had plenty of meat on them.Reassembled and tested and all worked as normal..put back on the car and i have wipers again..The only problem is..{no prizes for this} the last parking sweep is stopping a fair bit up the windscreen.not the end of the world but one of thoughs annoying things.I cannot just reposition wiper blades further down the windscreen as when the wipers are turned on again they carry on down the windscreen and be then wiping the bonnet. Before reconnecting wiper rack i ran the motor to preserve the parking position reconnected rack but soon became apparent that the wipers were not parking right.now how do i set the timing on this?..IE do i have to remove nylon gear and reset park position by rotating slightly or is there another way..I never dismantled gear box during service for that very reason.Sorry for long winded post.and Joe i"m not allowed 1698"s any more.A fine ale indeed but makes me crazy!{girlfriends words not mine}..Regards HJ.

There is logic to my plight and i"m not talking about the gargle..if i did not interfere with the gearbox of the wiper motor and its timing is intact, but only the motor out of the car which only job is to turn..how did i mess up the park position?..as the the rack can only be connected to the motor spindle two ways..one of which is like a bad b movie..what foolishness have i done..I am prepared to made look like a horses ass on this but would like it sorted..I"m sure i"ll get there and always ready to learn..Hj.
