The MoT history is scary too, especially with incosistent mileages like dropping to something like 2k miles in the middle of nearly 200k miles!

Could be a simple mistake on the part of the tester, i knew of a car once, MoT'd on 1st July and the tester wrote 31st June on the certificate. Cost the owner a court visit and an investigation into the tester i believe. The irony was the owner was acquitted of having a bent MoT but done for the defects he was pulled for and got 3 points on his (already loaded) licence which magically turned him into a pedestrian for 6 months! That wasn't a lucky car for him, he'd been done for speeding in it while it was sat with no gearbox in it!

Jesus wept...that's a huge amount of money. Even as a minter, it's still a 2.0 NA Auto car, I've owned a couple of those and they are excruciatingly slow. I admire the seller's ambition, but it's fairly unlikely it's going anywhere anytime soon.
It's a shame to see prices start to creep up, as it's eventually going to put these cars beyond the reach of people such as myself, a skint family man who loves them for their engineering excellence, affordability and ease of DIY maintenance.

That is the worrying bit Phil. On another forum i'm on, one of the members suggested he might be selling his car as the values were now nudging ~£2k for a good-exceptional example. I asked him what he would replace it with as all values of pre-2000 cars seem to be heading skyward. As you rightly point out, it's soon going to price us mere mortals out of the market so i'm going to sit tight on what i've got, knowing it's an appreciating asset and hope!

The prices of 1980s and 1990s cars have been rising. This is to be expected over time as fewer vehicles remain and they emerge from being old cars into new classics. Markets are always fundamentally driven by supply and demand.
I suspect the virus has had an impact too. People who have continued to receive a reliable income have had less opportunity to spend money and more time on their hands at home. Couple this with the rise in working from home meaning less commuting and factor in a yearning for happier times pre-virus and you create an almost perfect environment for selling usable classics at a top price. The other side of the coin is a lack of supply of project cars at the bottom end of the market as people who have been less fortunate during the pandemic or just cannot be bothered to jump through the hoops involved in interacting with other people at the moment hang on to their old cars for longer. I doubt any regulars on here would buy a NA car with 241k on the clock for over £4k. But don’t forget the opportunity afforded by those coming new to classic Volvo ownership who will be less familiar with the finer distinctions between the models. There’s undoubtedly still one born every minute ... |

What a beauty and only £7500! Most of their other 7/9s are overpriced and underwhelming but this seems about right.
They've got a nice Jag XK8 too. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BEAUTIFUL...S/303884736590

???
i can't believe people pay these prices from dealers just to avoid the hassle of selling their car and a 6 month warranty that isn't worth the paper it is printed on!!! i have seen some private sales of good 940's for half the price that Beacon place seems to regularly sell cars for!
i have been sickened by the price of some of the cars i used to own ie R32 Skyline GTR nearly 500bhp with cage etc...sold for 5,5k 10 yrs ago now worth probably close to 50k....i could go on. i was tempted to break my 940 recently but i couldn't afford anything i wanted due to the aforementioned rises so i am sticking with the brick and will see it through to 300 bhp plus. There will always be a market for it if i am suddenly able to afford a S15 Silvia! i beat a Mk5 golf GTI easily off the lights the other day and believe me , he was trying!! It was clear when he gave me thumbs up at the next roundabout he was not expecting that turn of speed from the brick! tbh i was kind of shocked expecting him to be right on my tail! Its much more satisfying beating someone in an old 940 than a Skyline! can't wait til it has another 100bhp plus .... |

As for finding an affordable S15, good luck with that as the values are going up on almost everything pre-2000, especially RWD cars as if someone has just flicked a light switch and shown people that post-2000 cars have in-built obsolescence and will break down sooner or later and not in a small way either! Those "sealed for life" engines and gearboxes were designed to virtually eliminate servicing meaning they have a finite lifespan, once it's gone, it's gone! The pre-2000 cars generally are able to be serviced and kept going. Some of the old beasts i've had like a 1972 Zephyr 6 Mk4 would be worth a small fortune today, the 144 auto, the C210 Skylines, SD1 V8s and so on. It's a pain to be wise after the event but that's what we've both got here!

The Volvo is now at £1995, still a little top heavy but half what it was! It’s been for sale for months so most will probably now avoid it being concerned at why it’s been for sale so long not realising it was simply a rip off!
As for the 960, well that ‘seller’ never sells anything! He has literally the exact same stock for sale month in and month out! |
