If FCP Euro have Bougicord leads and FRF in Swansea (as per Marks suggestion) can't supply then FCP would be a good bet - dealt with them several times and always been good.
The HT leads don't know (or care) that your engine is missing 330cc Steve. They still fit the same, do the same job and will give the same improvements if your existing leads are somewhat tired after 30 years of hard service. As an aside, my 30 year old Bougicord leads broke down electrically (and one physically) so i had to replace them. Bougicord leads for mine were non-existent some time back so i had to go Bosch - not wildly happy with the fit of them as they have a tendency to jump off the plug leaving it running on 5 cylinders! Forget E10 and invest in some proper 97/98 octane E5 such as BP Ultimate or at a push, Shell V-Power. Esso doesn't seem to do the job on my 760 and definitely didn't on my last 740 with hugh increases in consumption and loss of power. You'll almost certainly find it's a lot more economical on E5/97-98 octane than on E10/95 octane, more economically in % terms than the increased cost so is a no-brainer, it's cheaper to run on the expensive stuff. The USA didn't get any B200 940s (don't think they got any 740s with B200) as by the time they had hung on all the extra emssions control kit (especially for California) there wouldn't have been enough power left to move the car! Maybe a slight exaggeration but you get the idea!

Hi Dave,
Many thanks, and Mark has kindly forwarded to me his contact at FRF, so will email them with my Vin and see what they come up with. If they are out of stock of originals then I'll probably go with ordering a couple of sets from FCP Euro, glad to hear you've used them before with no issues. Cheers Steve |

You might be interested in my recent thread on Bosch part numbers for distributor caps.
https://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showthread.php?t=324380 The key point from this is that the part under the shroud is identical between the Volvo and the Porsche variants but the latter can sometimes be found cheaper. You must use the Volvo rotor arm. The genuine Volvo distributor caps are apparently coated in lacquer to improve performance, I forget how. I have never had a problem ordering from abroad. I have used USA and Germany frequently for car parts (and other items) and occasionally Australia and (yuck!) China. You have to factor in courier charges and UK VAT. In theory you should not have to pay purchase taxes the remote end, but this bit can be a minefield. There does seem to be a dearth of Bougicord leads out there. The set you need is 6431. |

Just a bit of an update as I have had a response from FRF Swansea, and info may assist anyone else looking for leads.
Apparently there are two types of leads for my 940, depending on if it has the radio aerial set into the nearside rear side window or not. Mine has, and cost is indicated £73.50 down to £58.80 with VOC discount. Just requested order be placed, bit of a hit to the wallet, as I've also gone for genuine distributor cap, rotor arm, air filter and fuel filter. I will keep my pattern rotor arm and fuel filter as spares backup. Sods law though, the type of leads mine needs, and air filter, are in GCP Sweden, and not in stock, so around 2 weeks or so to come in. On the plus side however, leads for cars without the aerial in the window were £13 more for some reason. Cheers Steve |

That shows the benefit of going to a cooperative main dealer.
I haven't heard about the radio aerial distinction. The FAQ covers the distinction between Bougicord class F (Volvo) and class E (Bougicord) leads which an independent specialist also mentioned to me years ago. I expect the radio aerial angle has something to do with suppression capabilities. I wonder if this also relates to the varying (by region) recommendations to use resistor spark plugs or not. The part number given for leads for my cars on Skandix website is 271483. Did FRF mention the part numbers? As for the value of OEM, I used to swear by OEM parts. However, for some items quality can be a bit variable these days so I've become a bit more circumspect. I recently renewed air filters across my fleet and used Mann which fitted well and seem good quality. I used Mahle (the OEM manufacturer) fuel filters. Generally OEM for oil filters although I have also used Mann in the past. You need ones with the anti-drain-back valve. |

Not So Fast, Stupid !!!!
Apologies for another post, too late to edit my prior post, had further emails from FRF Swansea with clarification that genuine rotor arm is no longer available, and that I had misunderstood their original estimate. My reading of the pricing was completely wrong, the 4 HT leads from Distributor Cap to spark plugs are £86 down to £64.60 after discount, for my car with the aerial in rear side window the genuine single lead (King Lead??) from Ignition Coil to Distributor Cap is £73.50 down to £58.80!!! (Yikes for one lead....) The king lead for cars without the aerial in window is only £18.40. Oh well, have decided to bite the bullet, as if I'm doing it then I might as well do it properly. Cheers Steve |

Sorry I've just posted a clarification and our posts crossed. Yes, I do feel using a main dealer has been beneficial, Chris Harris who Mark pointed me to was very prompt and helpful, especially valuable for me as I just cannot seem to work out the GCP website to decipher correct part numbers. Discounts varied between 15% on dizzy cap, to 32% on fuel filter, so a worthwile reduction. Yes, I hadn't seen anything either on FAQ section about the window aerial and differing king leads needed, apparently the king lead has some extra supression, needs to be good to justify £73 for one lead though. Unfortunately on the emailed PDF estimate there were no part numbers quoted I'm afraid. I dare say the car would probably run OK with the non supressed king lead, but in the grand scheme of things if it all works and sorts my slight hesitation , then I should be good for a few more years till they need re-doing. Also I think if my radio was all crackly afterwards I think I would soon curse not coughing up for genuine lead. Just need to hope the car continues with no worsening of the problem until the parts can come from Sweden Cheers Steve |
