Default First check.

As Laird Scooby, among many other, will ask - is the new battery a lead-acid or calcium battery? If the latter, take it back and demand they replace it with a comparable-spec lead-acid one.

one thought - my electric aerial is stuck down, to eliminate that I could remove the fuse?

What Loki ^^^^^ said!

I looked up the battery you've been supplied, it's a Calcium variant and you don't have an intelligent altnernator so it will only give a maximum of 14.4V output when cold. Calcium batteries need and absolute minimum of 14.7V to start charging and will often reach 15-16V depending on the alternator and conditions.

As already advised, take it back as it's unsuitable for your car and its alternator, get one of these instead :

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/192434766703

You'll also notice that's an "096" type instead of a "100" type. In fairness there's very little to choose between the two but the 096 is the correct fitment for the heavy duty application.

You may have a secondary fault on the car but when the batterys needs exceed the alternators output voltage just to take a charge, you won't know that until you get the correct battery to start with!

PS - your electric aerial will only try to go up when the radio is powered on - with the keys out of the car, the radio can't power on so isn't relevant.

I've had a Banner Powerbull on my 940 for 3 years with no issues. It was second hand when I got it as well as I pulled it from another 940

Was it a Calcium type Mark? Also would i be right in assuming you mean your current 940 which i think is a 96/97 model? If so many of the later 940s had intelligent alternators so would cope with the calcium battery unlike the "dumb" alternator fitted to the B280 engines.

Don't Know what type it is Dave. I'll check later.

My car is a 96 and the alternator looks pretty bog standard

Can't see that well as its covered by the clamp. But it's a Banner Starting Bull 480A 62AH.
