The difference between LandRover ownership and Volvo ownership, every time the car bongs in a LandRover you think oh no what have you done wrong now, in a Volvo you think oh no what have i done wrong now :-)

This XC90 has suffered from far more niggly (generally electronic/software) faults than any Land Rover or Range Rover we've had in the last decade.

Try owning a Jaguar F Pace!! Then you will know what electric/mechanical faults are. Also none of the body panels line up! Had this all verified with a DEKRA engineers report and rejected the Jag and bought my new XC90 which is far superior in every way! Never buy a JLR product again. My XC90 has suffered (so far) with no electrical/software issues and is far better built.

I've been less than impressed with early versions of the F-Pace that I've seen. The unwieldy front door inner trim, which is evident when the doors are open is a design issue, as is the extending door skin on the back doors which end in a sharp corner. Bonnet panel gaps have been a huge problem for some reason.
No experience with electrical issues as I have not run one of these, just looked.

Having said that, they will doubtless work on the gremlins just as they all do when they crop up.

Also my last Range Rover was the best built car I've ever had. My wife didn't like it and the BMW engine was very noisy when revved and grossly underpowered, but apart from that it was exceptionally well built and needed zero warranty adjustments or repairs. The front diff was guaranteed to grenade at some point, but it didn't in the 40,000 miles I owned it.

Hope the Volvo ends up with nearly as good a record because it is a far better car to travel in overall.

Thanks Quacker.

Which year/model Range Rover you had was so reliable? (Bad luck or not every JLR product I had was a headache).

Also how do you find the XC90 (compared to the RR) in terms of ride quality, high speed stability ,insulation, and cabin noise levels?

My last car was a Discovery 4 that I had from new and it only had one slight issue in the 3 years I had it - I loved that car but I did not like the service costs which were nothing short of criminal.

Mine was a 2004 model with the BMW engine and GM six speed transmission. Basically it was very nearly mechanically and electrically identical to the BMW X5 I had before it. The BMW was nowhere near as reliable though, having to be trailered back to the dealer on three occasions after electronic failures.

I would say that the mechanical suspension I have on the Volvo is more like the 'Sport' suspension I had on the X5 than the softer but more roley-poley Range Rover air suspension. Engine and cabin refinement is better in the Volvo and the Range Rover had terrible tyre noise as the original Goodyear tyres wore down. It could be that the Volvo will also worsen as the tyres wear and that is yet to be seen, but even though there are a lot of adverse comments about the Volvo on 20" Conti, such as mine, it really is not too bad so far and better that the Range Rover and the Q7 that came after it.

High speed stability is much better in the Volvo than the RR and as far as I remember the Q7, on a par with it. I did like the engine of the Q7, it had to be said, but I like the Volvo's four cylinder too and am pretty amazed by it to be honest. Is there any better four cylinder engine currently? The JLR Ingenium may come close but it doesn't seem to be better.
