Default Volvo 460 turbo auto, 39k from new, great car.

Here we have for sale my friends really original 460 turbo auto.

This is an incredibly rare car, there are very few examples in the country.

It's the same running gear as the 480 coupe turbo but, in the saloon body.

It's covered 39k from new and has the service book stamped right through the 90's where it then appears to have been taken off the road as the mileage has barley increased since the final recorded service. It has it's original alloys, the interior is excellent, it has a fully operational trip computer (really cool), heated velour seats, original blaupunk stereo, front fogs, original dealer sticker in the back window and if I'm not mistaken it's original number plates it's also absolutely solid underneath.

Overall condition is excellent, there are only a couple of very tiny issues, the boost gauge has started to peel as photographed and there is a tiny bubble on the rear wheel arch that the camera wouldn't even pick up.

I drove it the other day and it was an absolute dream, smooth through the gears, quiet, powerful and comfortable.

here are a few photos. He's looking for £1200 ONO. Please PM if interested.

Thanks for looking

Although I'm definitely interested in the car, I do not have the money to buy it.

Ill link this topic in the 400 series sales for you if its not already been done.

Looks to be in excellent condition.

I have a tweaked 460 CD Turbo myself and it's hilarious to see the looks on the local boy racer's faces when the big @rse squats and it takes off, as unlike a 480 it really doesn't look fast!!

Someone buy it and save it from the banger boys, not sure about this spec, but there are only TWO of mine left in the UK, and mine's the only one on the road. Can't imagine there being many of these left either!

Good luck with the sale

Steve

Thanks Steve,

I agree, I've got a T5 with a nicely opened up exhaust on and it still surprised me how perky it was especially for an auto !

I believe the spec is SE I'll double check.

Thanks

Default few queries

I'm looking for a 460 T but feel unsure about this one. All 460s of this age had body-coloured bumpers - why has this one not got them? The exception was the Li/Si but they didn't appear till around late '92 - also some base 460s that were badged just '460' like this one.

Never seen those wheels before; they look VWish. Why is it not badged either '460 Turbo or '460 CD'?

My anorak might be wrong but something doesn't seem right with this one... hoping the buyer can elucidate.

Hi,

The car was badged up 460 turbo but, someone had tried to steal the badge and broken it.

My friend removed the broken piece and is in the process of sourcing another.

As for the wheels, we're going to take one off later and see if they're stamped inside, I'll follow that up with an update.

Not sure on the bumpers, all I can say is everything looks original, there is no evidence the bumpers have ever been off all fixings seem to be in order, I believe the number plates are also original.

All the wiring and looms are correctly positioned and all under the bonnet is very original.

maybe the original owner ordered a weird spec ? It does happen sometimes. The first page of the service book that is stamped by the supplying dealer says 460T se but, again I'll check this it might say "si" which would explain the bumpers as it would be an si with the turbo engine option.

Thanks for your enquiry, if you are interested come and have a look at the car, you are more than welcome to inspect the car and it's paperwork.

Regards

Have to agree with you, not quite right.
I have had my 1992 460 gle since it was 4 months old and was quite up on them in there day. They never did that alloy in 91/92 and never realy seen them. The turbo came with a 5 spoke as standard.
Also the 460 badge is in the wrong place, it was more to the left with the turbo badge after it eg. 460 TURBO
The GLE, TURBO, GLT and CD all had glass tilt and slide sunroofs as well and as you said colour coded bumpers and mirrors.
The turbo was the only one to have Anti-lock braking as standard as well, with disc brakes on the rear.
The si and se did not come out till very late 92 even early 93 I think.
Just read back through this and I think I must get a life.

I agree Jeff; we are both sad and need to get lives! I recall them coming out, when I was about 9 or 10 and so I was well up on Mark One 400 series, as Dad used to sell them. OCD from a young age...

The favourite car of mine that he ever had was a G464 LNT, a light blue 460 GLE Injection. 2nd favourite was an F reg black 440 Turbo he had for about a month. Yet, I always hankered after a 460 Turbo though.

I'd be interested to see what this car comes back as; maybe it was reshelled? Who knows....

We've had a good look at all the paperwork, numbers, e.t.c.

The original dealership handbook States 464T and has the chassis number written on it which "surprisingly" matches the chassis number on the VIN plate AND the bulkhead AND the original manufacturer sticker which is located in the spare wheel well.

As for the wheels they are aftermarket "centra" alloys which are period to the 90s they were quite popular to owners of vw's, bmw's, Mercedes, Volvo and the like. They certainly weren't cheap nasty wheels. Not original I know but, period.

Maybe it would be more helpful for the anoraks to put their energy into finding out why this car is so unique and not into picking it to pieces and putting potential buyers off ?

There are ways of asking questions and having discussions about cars and I don't think that it has been followed in this thread, it's been more like statements of belief without research.

If anyone is truly interested in this car please feel free to come and look at it, it's a great car all the numbers match it drives brilliantly and it's tidy inside and out.

If your not interested well..............................
