Engine: D5: Cleaning the PCV D5

Any ideas on how to clean the PCV?

I have smoke coming from the oil filler and dipstick

I've been looking at that thing for a while. Info is scarce. The only thing gleaned from searches is that anyone who has taken the top off has found nothing and blocking seems to be a petrol issue. Getting it out looks tricky as the top screws are almost inaccessible and I can't work up the enthusiasm to pull the entire oil filter housing off - curiosity is a dangerous thing.

I'm not sure if this helps, but I came across this video on youtube the other day when looking for something else. Im not sure if the prinicples arethe same between petrol and diesel, but if not, have a search. Its quite a job from what ive seen. Not complicated, just long winded..

mine is the same as this on the 185 bhp it also did this on thew 163 and had no issues.

I have an idea that the crankcase pressure goes negative over 1500 rpm or something like that so at idle a bit of fumes is normal.

Hmm. My indy said there's a pressure build up in the sump pushing the dipstick out..possible breather blocked. They've been pretty good before. Also overfilled with oil. Not the rising oil level apparently!

to take the top off the separator housing you have to remove the filter housing bolts - 4 of them. If you do this you will need to fit 2 new seals/gaskets and also need a new top to the separator as the gasket for this does not come on its own. A new seal for the dipstick tube would likely need to be replaced.

I have just checked mine at 263k and it was clean as a whistle but may not be the case on every car.

It takes about 2 hours to remove and refit and a small amount of oil is lost - when vehicle is on ramps at the front.

It costs approx £37 for the seals and top cover (called a valve). It will leak as mine did hence replacing the seals.

Can be observed by slightly removing the dipstick so vapour can be seen then rev slowly to 1500rpm and vapour gets sucked down.

Hiya I am new to volvo and require to replace the Valve behind the oil filter on my V70 D5. Do you have any information of where you purchased the items so that I can order them Thanking you in advance.
