RE: Volvo V50
Not too sure whether I like this one or not..... the back end looks a little like a Renault Laguna estate. What do others think of it?

RE: Volvo V50
I think it's a lot better than the new S40 - but it does still look a bit squashed...
As for the rear - I thought a mix of V40 and V70 - there are hints of both there. I think if the prices are right in three years it could be my next car... Stu |

RE: Volvo V50
I do not like the lights, too Lexus style and the antenna is too Mercedes style. I'd be interested to see what it looks like inside.
a few hours later... had the Volvo Magazine from Volvo Cars NV in Ghent in the post today with pictures of the new V50 interior and it is awful, looks just like that 2001 Mondeo we rented in Portugal. Horrible, horrible. Well, I'll just have to keep my 940 for ever... RE: Volvo V50
Nope, I'm sorry but that back end really spoils what could be a very nice car. Looks like the guy who styled the fat backside of the Megane is now working for Volvo! One car which definitely won't be going on my wish list.

RE: Volvo V50
With cars now being designed for Euro pedestrian crash tests I think the designers are moving towards similar front ends (like what happened when cars went tear drop shaped), and the only area they can have greater expression is at the rear.
I think I could get used to the rear end....I prefer the boxy look of the 850 but I'm just an 80s kind of person. I'm just happy they've put in the 5 cylinder petrol engines. Now all I need is a V50 Cross Country.....a bit more aggressive styling would go down well, especially on the T5 |

Hi all,
I agree more aggressive styling would go down well, There is something very XC90 about that back end.not sure if i like the car im sure it will take some getting used to. Why cant they just bring back the good old 200/700/900 range and stop all this curvy nonsense!!! Best Regards Ben 242 2.3 82(Being modified) 244 2.3 82 245 2.0 89 245 2.0 91 854 2.0 96 |

>Why cant they just bring back the good old 200/700/900 range
>and stop all this curvy nonsense!!! Cos they'd never sell any these days... I get into my mates dad's 240, and it's like stepping back 20+ years. In a way I think it's a shame they killed off the 940, as that saw the last of the redblock, but it feels tired against the modern competition, even if it was improved beyond all recognition in the last few years. cheers James (who incidentally doesn't have any curvy ones either!!)

RE: Volvo V50
and of course real Volvo's are rear wheel drive.... ;-)
Although I do have to admit my wife's 240 estate is looking positively prehistoric compared to most other cars on the road - even most other J/K/L reg cars look like they are from a different generation. Keith;-) ;-) |

RE: Volvo V50
Hi
I reckon the build quality is far better on the RWD cars,we have a 96 850 and it has loads of small niggly problems which drive me crazy, plus of course i have a modified 244 which is far more fun to drive with the RWD set up,my friends give me awful stick for having the older volvos that is of course until i got the 244 and took 4 for a spin (quite literally) they havent slagged me since, its not that im a boy racer or anything but it is quite fun to drive on occasions Best Regards Ben 82 242 82 244 89 245 91 245 96 850 |
