Hello everyone,
I recently had few leaks on my gearbox and OD so i decided to remove the engine and the gearbox out of the car for a good cleaning and repainting of everything. It seems that oil is leaking from these to sections (see attached pic) i have a complete seal kit but before opening, i was wondering if i have to take extra care of anything, moving parts that could fell from inside? Thanks a lot! Jacques |

I just saw a video where the guy remove the OD from the trans (see pic attached)
Can i do the same to replace my gasket without risking messing something with the transmission output shaft? pic.jpg |

It has been almost 20 years since I did this on my M41. However, my recollection is that I did 'chicken out' in terms of complete separation. I removed the bolts and separated the two flanges (one at a time) just enough to extract the old gasket and clean the surfaces, then I slit the new gaskets at 45 deg (along the top surface), applied sealant to both faces of the gasket, inserted the gaskets and bolted it back up.
I cannot remember why I did this. |
