Default black smoke

hi, I have a second volvo, a 440 1.8si

with 76k miles, an L reg, all was fine until I laid her up for a few months, when I started her again she was spewing black smoke and also cutting out when warm refusing to start again until cold.

my head tells me the single injector is blocked? is this correct can you help?

Could be that the petrol gummed up and it's blocking the injector. Modern petrol already starts gumming up after 6 weeks. The best is to put new gas in and remove the injector. Let the tip of the injector soak in enjector cleaner for a night and see if it works. Best is to replace the fuel filter also.
The best thing to do if you lay up your car for longer (winterperiod for example) to put some gas stabilizer (lawnmower shop) in the tank to prevent this thing happening.
Another possibility is that electric connectors are oxidised. Clean them all under the hood with contact spray and put them back together again with some vaseline to prevent oxidizing in the future. I would change the rotor, distr.cap, plugs and leads also to be sure that you get a nice spark at the plugs.

it will be the manifold pressure sensor the hose to it will be either disconnected or the restrictor nipple in the manifold end blocked up ...
