Updates shown in the Volvo Cars app. What are they?

Hi,

I own a 2020 XC90 and in the Volvo app I see in the Car->Car Software section a list of software updates (updates almost monthly).

What do they refer to? Should this updates show up in the infotainment system (Sensus) and be able to be run by the owner?

The car software updates you are referring to in your screen shot are only for the AAOS operating system. The Sensus operating system is not update-able 'Over the Air' like the AAOS operating system is, Sensus is only update-able at the dealership with some of the smaller navigation map updates available 'Over the Air'.

Its interesting that it still shows you these in the Volvo App even though they are not specifically for your car.

It is really weird indeed that they are showing in my app even though my car has Sensus…

Anyone else with Sensus and the Volvo Cars app showing updates?

The Sensus updates are shown because they can be updated at a dealer.

The google updates have version numbers, not just months.

Do any of you know what do they changed under drivetrain optimisation? Any changes? anyone noticed something? Volvo never inform us what was adjusted ;(

So are you saying that what’s showing in my Volvo Car app on iPhone are actually Sensus updates?

It is annoying though that they cannot be done over-the-air, especially considering that there is a dedicated tab to software updates in the infotainment system.

Correct.

They can also be found on the Volvo website.
But yea, Sensus never had OTA for main software, only apps and maps.

That is an interesting change then as my old car (Sensus) never showed these updates in the app as the OP's does. Good to see that Volvo continue to improve the Volvo App for Sensus cars although it would be nice if they managed to get the AAOS App upto the same stage as the Sensus App..........

Agreed. I challenged a service manager today on this exact point.
On asking what the sensus updates were and any evidence. He told me, all updates were part of the health check.

I then asked him for a free Vodafone data sim as part of the service https://www.volvocars.com/uk/l/service/free-wifi/ He was bemused and suggested MY21 V90 didn’t have a data sim and everything was over the air, and had to check. Before reluctantly locating a sim and handing it to me.

I have zero confidence Sensus has been updated.
