Default Software update?

Evening all

My xc90 is unlikely to have seen the inside of a Volvo garage for many years. Called for a quote on a service today. £175inc vat for an essential or £280 for an standard where they also plug the car in, software updates etc.

What kind of software is updated? Is it worth it. Would I notice anything different?

It's likely been 4 or 5 years since it's last visited Volvo.

Car is a 2010 R design auto

Winter pack
Res if that makes any odds?

I'm always sceptical of software updates. If the car is running/performing/behaving OK then I don't 100% get how updated instructions will change anything.
Also, it's not as if software 'wears out'! I have heard of it becoming corrupted though.

Dont forget, if Volvo service the car you also get 12 months UK/European breakdown/recovery as well, may or may not be worth it to your circumstances.

Also the software updates, will include any fixes and enhancements that are available for the modules concerned, ABS, fuel injection, geartronic etc.

Indeed. I factor in that the annual Volvo service saves me £160 or so a year in RAC cover, upon which it becomes very good value compared to other outlets.

+1 for Volvo servicing but the software updates don't seem to cover everything.... I bought a 2015 XC60 2 years ago with 7 stamps in the book but the TCM (Transmission control module) hadn't got the latest software.
