V70 FWD light knocking sound from rear?
Ever since I have had my V70 and done approx 6.5k miles in it, it has had a light knocking from the rear on small bumps.
It doesn't tend to do it when there is weight in the car. I have replaced the drop links and the shocks are quite recent also, but I noticed from the service history it has had a few pairs of rear shocks over the years. Are they a known weak spot? Could this be the source of the knock, or are there any other common culprits? A pair of shocks is only £80 or so, so not that big a deal to change anyway. Cheers! |

Did you replace the upper shock mounts?
Another culprit is the rear trailing arm bushings.

Probably too obvious, but check the exhaust hangers. The steel arms on the exhaust that fit into the support rubbers are prone to corroding and coming off. This causes a knocking at the back over bumps.

It could be anti roll bar bushes
my 2007 d5 had a knock at the rear and cutting the old bushes off the bar and fitting new aftermarket rubbers cured the problem John F |

Thanks all.
I did replace the upper front spring mounts and bearings. I did think it might be exhaust rubbers/mounts but they look OK. Probably need to jack up and have a better look. Yhe trailing arm bushes are starting to split but not bad at all |
