Default Ignition Leads

Hi,

Could I ask for some expert advice, please?

I'm just finishing a Stage 0 on my 97/98 V70 2.5T, 170,000mile.

I've changed the distributor and rotor but not the leads as the resistance is good and the car is running well (all were/are the original parts still!). I'd like to do the leads anyway, however, or at least have a set ready.

Does anyone know which aftermarket leads best match the Volvo originals that the dealers can't get hold of any more?

I can't find the cheaper Bougicords that shops such as PFV and Mister Auto normally stock at the moment so I'm looking at Magnecore (KV85 and Bosch (I believe the W232 although that's not clear). Are these 2 good options or are there other good sets out there, (or does someone have a stash of Bougicords?).

Thanks.

Thanks. I have the 2.5T 20 valve. The chaps at PFV ony have the 10 valve leads and don't know when they'll be able to get the Bougi 20s. I'll have a look at Lucas.

Rich.

Hi Richmac

I do have a couple of sets of Bougicord 6469 (BNIB 6 leads, made in France).

I am not 100% of what they fit. I think I have used them in both 1998 2.4 non turbo 10V and 1998 2.3T but I don't know what the differences are between the 10v and the 20v sets.

They are like this
https://www.autodoc.co.uk/bougicord/10074897

If you want one let me know. Probably around the £125 mark including postage, but you have to do the checking to be sure they are appropriate for your needs.

Magnecor leads every time. Expensive at around £120 but they are outstandingly reliable. I've used them for many years on a number of Volvos. When I junked the standard leads (there was nothing wrong with them by the way) on my T5-R last year and put Magnecor leads on, my idle speed increased by 50 - 70 r.p.m., the idle became very smooth and most importantly, the emissions improved.
The set on my old C70 T5 coupe were still going strong after 20 years and 350,000 miles. (I also used them on my TVR Griffith 5.0 and Cerbera 4.5 to great effect).

You get what you pay for.

Thanks all. I've finally found some Bougis at the right price so the quest is over.

End of thread.
