far as I can tell you need to drop the back half of the subframe to undo the bolts, whether you're replacing the whole thing (which has the bushes fixed on as you say) or using the repair kit

I'm guessing that's why people have told you it's expensive, because they probably would have just given it to a garage, it's not an ideal driveway job so you're paying labour as well as materials

not done it myself but I guess it's a no brainer that the repair kit is cheaper than a new ARB. I assume you cut or burn off the old stuff

it's a bit of an odd layout to be fair, I did the job on an old BMW once at it took about 20mins, up on the ramps and 4 easy to access bolts

I've never done an ARB replacement but I read the rear subframe bolts need only be unscrewed "3/4" their length.
If you plan to drive "spiritedly" you might consider the stiffer (thicker) anti roll bars offered by IPDUSA.com. People swear it's the best bang for the buck.

Do you do any wrenching yourself? Many people can't or live where vehicle work is not allowed.....just askin'.

TRUE CONFESSIONS: I picked up a rear ARB (we call them 'roll bars" here) for my non-turbo V70 and have yet to install it. It's a standard Volvo part. I want to feel the stability. I don't want to tear about grinding my tires down.

I upgraded my rear ARB to the 21mm solid bar two weeks ago after a failed MOT on the bushes. I've spent the past 10 days driving around the twisties in the Highlands, and am astounded by the difference the bar has made. Car is far more planted and less rolly (imagine that) on corners. I can now take corners with speed without the fear of my other half being pressed against her window.

Advice I received from another forum is to keep the front bar the same (green) and upgrade the back (white). Otherwise you'll create understeer.
