Out of interest who sets these values is it Volvo, the finance company, the Dealer or a combination?

Is it really only 13 AMP? Six hours is ridiculous for charging the battery from flat minimum should be 16A and preferably 32A. Maybe that will come next year?

It’s not even 13A - I used that terminology as the standard charger is fitted with a 13A plug, the maximum current draw is actually 10A!

The battery doesn’t go ‘flat’ - with the current 11.6 kW battery I’ve measure a full charge at around 9.8 kW, but the new one will still take 16ish kW to charge up.

Its only 13A if charging the car using the 3 pin domestic plug charger. If a type 2 charging box and cable is used, the T8 is capped at a 3.6kw/hour charge speed due to the 3.6kw on-board charger installed. Its alot quicker on a type 2 charge but still half the speed it could be if we could utilise the full 7.2kw's supplied by most type 2 wall boxes.
The new 18kw battery will take 4-5 hours to charge if its still only fitted with a 3.6kw on-board charger and much longer using the 13a domestic plug charging cable.

Thanks for the additional info, it does seem an oversight to increase the battery capacity but not the charging. I guess it could be due to supply and this is something that may change in the MY23 models. Fitting charging of the battery into a four hour window seems to be the sweet spot and certainly advantageous if on the Octopus Go tariff (4 hours overnight at 5p /kWh)

Agreed, thats who I'm with and since switching, its saved us quite a bit on charging the car. It would be tight to get a full charge on the newer battery size in the time but still.
I wonder if Octopus will inevitably have to increase the time the 5p is available overnight due to the larger batteries in EV's and some PHEV's these days of leave it as is to screw more money out of us.

Octopus has introduced a few other beta Go type tariffs under the collective name Go Faster which extends the cheap period to five or six hours, or so I believe. Then we have Intelligent Octopus on the horizon which is dynamic based on grid demand/cost.

However, Volvo still need to sort out the charging of these higher capacity batteries to support 16 or 32 amps.

We ordered a V60 early/mid July and have now been told we'll be getting the new battery and motor. I thought that might interest those who have cars at various order stages.

I'm assuming the dealer is correct of course!

Hello - I joined this forum years ago but once I test drove the XC90 in early to mid-2015 on launch I found the tyre noise unacceptable so I went elsewhere

Now come back having seen this thread on the longer range which make the XC90P8 (or whatever it is called today) possible. I am trying to find out what the effect of the PHEV is on boot space as have seen two different stats for that - 640 litres and 770 (the latter being what diesel / petrol versions have, I think). The original claim was that PHEV did not affect boot space because the battery was in the transmission tunnel (if I remember correctly). Which makes it hard to see why the space would be different. Can anyone with a PHEV enlighten me, please?

Will be having a test drive in a couple of weeks but thought worth asking here as google seems not to be my friend in this respect!
