Greetings with new project
Hello everybody, i came across a blue volvo 245 1981 GL recently. I thought can bring it back to alive agaun. It is Non-running, body need attention. Im new to volvo. I hope i can learn some good tips and advices regarding the restoration from all experts.
For a start, I googled and found some PDF for parts list. Found one without the body parts list missing another non-english. If somebody has a full copy, please share. 2. Where is the best place to buy parts like wiring, rubbers, and trims. UK or outside UK can consider if its reasonable. Regards Viks |

Welcome aboard! Looks like a nice project you have there! As for parts, what parts are you looking for? Many parts come from different suppliers and some suppliers are better than others on price and/or quality.
Also is it right hand drive or left hand drive?

Hi,
It is RHD same as UK. I will change NEW glass rubbers. The side mirrors have been modified. Some door and bumper trims are missing. The rest electric parts and body parts mostly complete. Function wise, i only will know after start stripping it. How does the owners manual for this 1981 GL will look like? A photo will be helpful to look online. Regards Quote:

The door mirrors look standard fitment to me. Also what is shown on the cover of the Haynes manual :
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/353608847073 The seller posts worldwide so you should be ok in KL buying that one - ask for postage costs before you commit to buy though! As far as suppliers go, if you can get parts locally that will save you a lot in carriage charges from abroad. However, these places are good for many run-of-the-mill things : https://www.rockauto.com/ https://www.fcpeuro.com/ Also skandix.de (German site) but be advised they are all countries where LHD is prevalent so things like steering racks, heater matrices and so on or anything that is handed to the country of sale won't necesarily be suitable. Ebay will be your friend for pieces of trim etc as long as the seller is willing to post worldwide.

For a 1981 car the mirrors should be either internally adjustable or electrically-operated, depending on spec: DL and GL manual, GLE and GLT electrical. Your car appears to have the pre-1980 style of mirror that has a locking screw to move the mirror itself while the arm stays put. The early - pre-1980 - cars had an optional internally-adjustable version of this mirror but again, yours should have the later, all-plastic casing.
For a 1981 model either ISBN 0 85696 591 X or 1 85010 402 6 Haynes manuals will work. One item that you should acquire if you see one is the windscreen wiper motor; RHD versions are almost impossible to find in the U.K. and it has been suggeted that Thailand and Australia are likely to be the only places to find them.

I am used to buy parts from UK. Its reasonable.
Im not really sure of which side mirror is right one for this model. I have been told mine should have the black. Not chrome. The chassis number is YV1245411B5360xxx.. there is GL Emblem at rear door. Here is a photo of dashboard view, it has electric window. The top panel, its for radio or instruments? Regarding the wiper motor, it is same as 244 right?? Cheers |

It appears yours is a leter model than i thought so should have the black external mirrors and from the look of it they were manual remote control, hence that round trim on the inside of the door where the mirror mounts to it. Others will be able to give you more detailed facts on the mirrors etc, the wiper motor should be the same at the front and i'm fairly sure the rear one remained unchanged from 245 to 240 estate.
