Thank you.

That appears to be useful information. That coul be the basis of a "How To". In the 200 Series Articles section, and in other sections in which it is relevant.

Otherwise that info will only be available to people who search the forum. Some forum members now do not seem to want to do that. They prefer to re-invent the wheel ....

Have a read through that, work out what MY (Model Year) your car is from the VIN number (it explains how to decode the VIN but make sure you're not reading the USA/Canada page!), find the engine code eg B230FB, usually on the timing belt upper cover and then have a look further through to find the correct OE Bosch number. Use that Bosch number to either order one from the suggestions above or as the search term on ebay to find an alternative. As has been noted, the Bosch LH injection system isn't particularly tolerant of universal type sensors - however most universal sensors are within the spec required for the Bosch stuff so i think Bosch are doing something deliberate to maintain their aftermarket sales.
Thanks for the link, I already knew how to decode the VIN and what engine code/model year the car is but that doc seems to confirm that for a 93(P code)/B200F it should be 0258003034. Thanks again for your help, I will report back on how it goes but I think it will be Saturday before I get around to it!

I'm sure somewhere in the 7/9xx section i've done a procedure for someone. All easy enough except perhaps remving the old sensor for which a proper Lambda Sensor Socket is desirable.

If you can't find it, let me know and i'll duplicate it from memory (E&OE) as a "working guide" with the provisos that it's originally written for the 7/9xx models with LH2.4 injection and the reader must satisfy themselves of any discrepancies on the 240 series.

You're welcome and i'll second the part number after checking.

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/334136427387

When fitting, put a smear of copper grease on the threads ONLY of the new sensor. Some have a smear of a grey anti-sieze compound on but usually you need a microscope to see it and as such it doesn't do much!

I'll never know why they insisted on using so many different components/part numbers for the same components, it's a nightmare keeping up with what is fitted to what model/year/engine etc!

Otherwise just remove the cat and unplug the cable, and clamp the sensor in a sturdy vice. Then just lean on the exhaust pipe to unscrew the cat from the sensor.

The trick works for all sorts of things, eg unscrewing the hub locking nut holding a deraileur gear set to a rear bicycle wheel.
Use the vice to hold the fiddly part very tightly and apply your effort to the bigger bit.

Dave .. David

My point was and is, you posted info how to check the correct part number for a sensor for any particular car.

Perhaps that information might become a ... Sticky.

Hi all,

Just to wrap this up, I fitted the new sensor on Saturday, it went pretty well and only took about 20 minutes from start to finish. I can confirm that the Bosch sensor with part number 0258003034 certainly seems to be working just fine.

Thanks again to everyone for their help with this.

Hi All,

Looks like I spoke too soon on this, 10 miles later the light on the dash relit! So, I checked the code and it's 2-1-2 again, cleared the code, checked it was 1-1-1 went for a drive and 18 miles later the light came back on (code 2-1-2 again)! The 'other' ECU is showing no fault codes at all.

Not really sure where to start with this, so far, I've double-checked all of the connections for the sensor, checked the sensor wire for continuity all the way to the ECU plug and that is fine. If anyone has any ideas, they would be greatly appreciated, I will keep you all updated on the progress.

Thanks,

Thanks,
Was there a very slight misfire/cough/hiccough just before the EML came on again? If not, what were the circumstances immedialtely prior to it coming on? Had you just given it the beans to get up a hill for example?
