Oil? S60 Diesel, can I use BMW With same viscosity.
Hi, looking to do an oil change on my 2006 s60 diesel, its 0w 30w oil im told.
The below is the same viscosity but it has BMW on it. Its a lot cheaper as well, is it a good idea to use this? Thanks

You need a ACEA B5 oil.
If it does not specifically say that on the label I would not use it. It's very easy to find an oil that is definitely correct.

The correct A5/B5 oil is an extended interval spec.
The risk of problems is very low, but the risk is real and unpredictable so personally I wouldn't use it for more than minor top ups.

So is the BMW specced oil.
There are multiple elements of the A5/B5 that are important for our engines, one of which is the SAPS grade. You don't want to hasten the demise of the DPF by saving a few pounds on oil. Perhaps a forum orchestrated group buy is the order of the day? |

Cheap for a reason?? Triple QX is I believe a Eurocarparts brand and I'm told[don't know how true this is]contains a fair proportion of re-cycled oil.

Whereas the unsubstantiated rumour I read on a car forum was that it's rebranded Shell. But yes, it's sold by ECP/CP4L.

The SAPS concern isn't really relevant to our passive systems, as they don't ash up to anywhere near the same extent - this evidenced by not requiring Eoyls to lower the temperature at which the ash will combust, as there isn't enough ash to justify it. Prior to retirement I helped develop and build F1 power units, and minored in fuels and lubricants for my Masters, so I have a little expertise. The long life characteristic is the relevant one to the Euro 3 D5. As aforementioned, I'd be happy to use moderate amounts for top ups, but would he reluctant to do an oil change.p without knowing exactly which standard it was.

Sure is a minefield for us average chaps when trying to choose oil and save money.
I note your expertise in the matter but will retain the right to disagree with your sentiment 're Saps. I've monitored my Euro5 D5's ash levels via Vida and you'll be surprised how quick it does build up when short journeys become a necessity, even with the correct oil, but anyway that wasn't what the OP wanted to know and I see he has conceded to the general consensus on this thread, which is to buy the correct oil.
