I've always fancied an Amazon and the time has come when I may be able to obtain one as a project.

I'm not after a perfect running example. Most of the ones I've looked at have a bit of rust and a non running engine - which is fine. I can weld and I can get them running again.

I'm just wondering if there is anything in particular that can be seen as a massive pitfall, for example rust in a location that is extremely difficult to put right, or parts that are now impossible to come by.

Any opinions gratefully received, and if you have a project languishing somewhere and are looking to get rid, feel free to post it here.

The rust is the only real issue.

I have managed to get all the parts i need with the exception of the rear upper latch (on an estate) but it is repairable.

Brookhouse will have everything you need from fuses to wheels and everything in between.

Classic Swede is also a really good place to buy stuff.

If you want engine performance i would highly recommend Tinus tuning in the Netherlands, Ben is a really good bloke and has some seriously good upgrades.

Welcome (hopefully) to the club.

Jack

Excellent news, thanks for that!

I'd also be interested to know how easy to come by engine components are - valves, seals, rings, bearings etc. I suppose spare bxx engines seem fairly numerous if all else fails.

Juular;

My basic advice is always to buy the best sheetmetal you can afford...and at their age, there will be examples from all across the spectrum of rust conditions...but if you can take on such repairs, you have more options to choose from. Weaknesses do to age and wear occur, but are wellknown and documented to help you through them...you rarely have to break new ground all by yourself figuring out an issue. Mechanicals can always be repaired, and there are many used, new, repro even repurp sources and resources out there...Jack has already given two local to you...

Good Hunting for your next project car!

Parts are getting expensive, if you look at Brookhouse Volvo you can see how much repair panels cost. The sedan parts are plentiful and most of the proper repair panels are decent.

A good starting point to understanding what to look for.

Well, I bought myself a rusty Amazon 122S with a seized engine.

I guess I'll be posting in this section now too!

Hi, interesting project. I have a B18 from my original Amazon and which my neighbour and I had started a few weeks ago. I'm just across the water in Fife if you are interested.

I may well be, although I'm quietly confident I can get it to turn over again. Thanks for the offer, I'll keep you in mind.
