On the other hand, the circumstances that 'Burdekin' describes, while improbable, are not impossible, and it would greatly increase my faith in human nature if he is indeed correct.

Either way, the ad could have been better worded in order to avoid the ambiguity and subsequent doubt. Perhaps we are both simply too cynical, Alan?

Regards, John.
I think you have a typo with the word" voracity," which you probably meant to be "veracity." Isn't English just wonderful!

Cheers,

So it is safe to conclude that the 6K asking price is about correct and isn't necessarily (based on what the forum knows from the limited info in the advert) an especially great / cheap asking price?

Thank you, 'VolvoFan'. Is there an 'embarrassed' smiley I can use ... J.

Army: I just do the Estates. I'm not up to date on things like tax status and MOT as that is now largely moot. New ones that I haven't got are still out there but I haven't seen anything new recently. Throw reg numbers at me off list if you think they are "strangers". 😎

Only got passion for the wagon eh?

(I assume you're only collecting RHD data - if you wanted LHD Dutch data I could probably get you a contact if you really want but I think that is probably taking things too far!)

Yes RHD only unless it's British reg. Even doing RHD Saloons would be too much for little me. 😊

Sounds about right. That website doesn't allow many pictures but I have seen ads with about 5. Message them for the 40. Makes sense, especially if they show the areas at the rear that need repair.

EDIT: I have 24 various pics of this from the original eBay ad onwards. Here's one of the rear.
Wow, that is so cool, what a fantastic DB. Thank you so much. It does indeed look like GHU28B has been around as a project car for a very long time indeed.

The question was about the veracity of the ad. There are a lot of things that don't ring true to me: the seller says the car was MoT tested and he drove it on the highway - but it doesn't look (to me) like the rust has been dealt with sufficiently to pass the MoT test. The V5 piece seems unlikely to me... I could be very wrong, but I'm smelling a rat.

I'm also slightly surprised that if it had been a genuine long term project that it would not have been better known to this forum.

Something about this one is screaming 'steer away!'.

:-)

Alan

Not sure I’d be so suspicious of this. The owner’s working abroad - that’s not unusual - and they’ve not got the V5 - it will probably be in store with the rest of the stuff they left behind. It is curious that the reg number isn’t picked up on the DVLA’s MoT database. It doesn’t surprise me that the car’s not featured on the forum as a restoration project, it’s not being sold on here either. Not everyone uses forums or social media.

If you’re interested, why not approach the person selling it direct?

It's real enough....I went and saw it at the end of 2019 as it's 5 miles down the road from where I live but ended up buying a different car...

Thank you, now that is really useful and has changed my opinion at a stroke.
