VEA Balance shaft module.
Hi folks, my wife’s s60 T4 has the known noise from the balance shaft module on a 67 plate. It’s a gear meshing issue in the module from what I gather causing a whirr/whine that varies with rpm. Currently looking at whether to have it replaced with the updated module Volvo developed for the issue but my question is if we can just ignore the noise is it something that will get worse and become more intrusive, or worse actually fail causing serious issue? Or is it literally just a whine that will remain as is with no issue?
Thanks in advance.

There is a long running thread on balance shaft module issues with VEA engines on a Swedish forum. Some of the photos show very obvious grinding and other wear and damage marks on the gears, from which metal filings must end up in the oil, so it's not something I would ignore.
