Default Swirl Flap activation problem

Hi again everyone I have got a new connecting rod between the swirl flap motor and the flap activator (the old type ball one end hole the other) but cannot get the ball on the end of the new rod to to stay in situ on the activator because it has a piece broken off, does anyone know any fixes for this or is this part detachable without major surgery involving complete swirl flap job many thanks Chris

I did mine today using a split pin and a lot of patience !
Pointless exercise though as the arm doesn't seem to move anything inside and feels too 'free'. It was a hopeful 'no cost' fix.

Main dealer diagnosed the fault yesterday and quoted £902 !

Therefore the car's now booked in with a Specialist next week for £320 + vat....

My swirl arm feels too easy to turn , I also have a ECM-134f maf low signal fault , please let us know if the swirl arm was actually broken after the repairs.

I did my swirl flaps over winter as had same issue. Mine was feeling very free, as you say. In my experience it would be very difficult to snap the internals of that 90 degree motion and they’re only actually made of very lightweight materials anyway so I’m pretty certain yours will be intact also.

Someone may correct me on the accuracy of this but the Maf fault may be because the sensor was disconnected at some point whilst the battery was still connected? My Vida registered the same fault due to this even though the maf sensor was fine and had no actual fault. Are there any symptoms other than the DTC which would suggest their is one?

I have erased the fault in vida several times a day as the car drives in limp mode until I erase the maf fault and then it will drive fine until the car is left for over 30 mins , then the fault re appears.

I bought the Volvo "pin/nail" kit to re-attach swirl arm to ball but it seemed incredibly difficult if not impossible to drill a 2mm hole without taking half the engine apart. Instead a friend and mechanic came up with the idea of 'tightening' the arm with a small nut and bolt. 2.5mm hole through the arm to pull it together. So far so good, it's gripping and not coming off. Pic attached. Yes I know about the oil leak, that's a whole other world of pain.

Thats crazy. I dont know who can afford or is stupid enough to pay main dealer prices.
Any wonder some folk think xc90 is very expensive to keep.
Your specialist will be every bit as good for a fraction of the price.

If I couldn't afford main dealer prices I'd have been pretty daft to have shelled out £49,000 on a new XC90 in 2008.

We also traded in my Wife's 2012 XC90 a couple of weeks ago, and received £2000 more because it had a full dealer history, so in the long run taking it elsewhere may not work out 'cheaper' anyway...

But what they’re talking about having done for 500 odd quid less isn’t a service item. And how much does 9 years of paying twice as much equate to? The xc90 I just bought has full Volvo dealership service history and judging by the receipts they paid considerably more for servicing than I paid for the car
