Default Oil Usage / Leak

Morning all,

So this may have been asked before, but.....

I have a 2015 D4 xc60 (5cyl) and have noticed that it’s starting to use a bit of oil, the warning light came on once but that was close to it needing a service anyway so assumed ok, this has however now happened again after probably 2.5k miles.

I’ve had a bit of a ratch around for advice which led me to doing the glove test to check the crankcase pressure. The glove inflated!

I need to investigate further but I’m struggling to get my head around the crank case ventilation system on this engine! Does anyone have a diagram / a series of pictures that could help?

Oh I should probably add that with the glove over the oil fill port, it inflated on idle but when I revved it a little the glove deflated so I’m thinking the system is working (ish) but only on higher Revs so maybe a slight blockage forming that needs higher flows to overcome.

Only other point to mention that may help depending on someone’s knowledge of the PCV, oil trap, flame trap system is that there does seem to be some oily build up around the oil filter housing, however it’s difficult for me to point to this directly as I haven’t had the car from new and this might just be careless filter changes in the past.

I’m reasonably handy car wise but new to Volvos and while I could take it to the garage I’d rather try to save the money (baby on the way in 6 weeks and all!).

Hopefully someone else has had a similar issue or at least be able to describe the system so I can have a deeper look.

Thanks in advance
