My XC60 Google system seems to be working fine so far here in rural Scotland.
AudioWagon app is great and where some tunes don't have artwork displayed I have created and added my own with other software. The AAOS is great for those who like to customise things a little. I would expect to see more and more apps coming from third party developers as more cars become available. I am interested in the possibility of adding a graphic equaliser to AudioWagon. Google maps seems to work well here in country lanes which, despite what some seem to experience. Shame some are having such issues with updates, I wonder why that is, I appreciate that must be frustrating. I am not entirely sure but I believe Volvo use the Vodafone network as their backbone to deliver updates so it may be worth checking the Vodafone coverage map to see if you are in a bad patch. Please note I am not completely sure that is the current network used but reading around it certainly was at one point.

If it doesn't they ditch it but even if it succeeds it can stay in beta for years (even Gmail was in beta for over 10 years).

Few of the major car makers have adopted Android Automotive OS so I have little faith in Google producing a long-term, stable platform that will be continually developed. Here's the complete list of vehicles so far:
  • 2020 Polestar 2
  • 2022 GMC Hummer EV
  • 2022 GMC Sierra
  • 2022 GMC Yukon
  • 2022 Chevrolet Tahoe
  • 2022 Chevrolet Suburban
  • 2022 Chevrolet Silverado
  • 2023 Cadillac Lyriq
  • 2022 Renault Mégane E-Tech Electric
  • 2021 Volvo XC40 P8
  • 2021 Volvo XC40 Recharge
  • 2022 Volvo C40 Recharge
  • 2022 Volvo XC60
  • 2022 Volvo S90
  • 2022 Volvo V90
  • 2022 Volvo V90 Cross Country

Note that GMC, Chevrolet and Cadillac are all GM brands.

So far, Google has killed off 243 products; here's a list: https://killedbygoogle.com/
Although the current list of cars is limited, there appears to be a large number of manufacturers that have announced that they will be introducing it across their ranges. Including the 3rd, 4th, 6th, 7th and 8th largest automakers in the World, so I wouldn't write it off just yet.
  • Polestar announced the Polestar 2, the first car with built-in Android Automotive.
  • The Renault–Nissan–Mitsubishi Alliance announced a technology partnership to embed the Android Automotive operating system in the group's vehicles starting in 2021.
  • General Motors announced that they will use Android Automotive to power the infotainment systems in its cars starting in 2021.
  • Stellantis (formerly Groupe PSA and FCA Group) announced they would power their infotainment systems with Android Automotive OS, from 2023.
  • Ford announced a partnership with Google that would bring Android Automotive to Ford and Lincoln vehicles, starting in 2023.
  • Lucid Motors revealed that the Lucid Air was using Android Automotive for its infotainment system, but without the Google Automotive Services (GAS).
  • Honda announced that it would use Google’s Android Automotive OS in its cars starting in 2022.

So when you say google works ok, does it show correct speed limits? mine started showing 40 in a 4o zone now it shows 40 one way then 30 in the opposite direction.... after that it all went down hill. Car has only been built just over 5 weeks.
