Towing, manual or automatic.

Due to a change in family circumstance, we will be selling our motorhome and will buy a caravan.
I will be buying a Xc90 diesel to tow with.
Which is the better option, manual or auto, bearing in mind the foot operated handbrake?

I know if I buy a post 2006 model the price of the road tax is nearly double on the auto.

Anyone got any experiences towing with either model.

Yes we have an auto and tow a Geist 550 1350Kg empty/1500kg loaded. It hasn`t faultered. Absolutely marvellous. We get low 20`s mpg. No smell of burning clutch when you reverse caravan onto pitch which we used to get with all our manuals. Cheers
