Is this pants?

I'm off to check my owners manual...
700 sounds right - but for an unbraked van.
Your max tow for your car will likely be 1600Kg or there abouts.

It is recommended that you tow not more than 85% of your cars kerb weight with you and full tank of petrol.
Likely nose weight is 70Kg on the towbar.

These are just guesses. You should check the manual for your max tow weight and weight of your vehicle.

Have a look at these:

Just checked our two Volvos on this site.

The 740 TDI Estate scored * and the 850R Estate scored *****

Granted that this web site evaluation was for a heavy caravan with a higher wind resistance, the 740 has done fine so far towing our twin axled braked trailer, although it hasn't been loaded with seriously heavy stuff.

However I think a tow bar for the 850R is a good idea!

Default towbar carbuncle

can I suggest that with the 850R you pay the extra for a demountable towbar.
I didn't and wish I had.

Do you mind telling me why?

[Although I have just had a standard Witter bar fitted so it is a bit late]

Default tow away

It's purely aesthetic.
Car sometimes looks ugly with a towbar. Makes me wish I had gone for the demountable, but it was double the price!
