Default clutch for T5 94-95

Hello
a newbie here seeking advice please

My 850 T5 has started to slip when speed is applied yet drags car fine in 1st and stalls in 2nd & 3rd.
is it a case of clutch going or another poss cause.
it soon if nursed gets to speed and revs don't fly around just go up by about 500 whilst slipping.

I drive it very careful (have to with squirt at the price it is) and average 30-32mpg around the streets and around 33+ on M-way. only ever get to speed gently rather than heavy foot etc. even towing the 20ft caravan I get 21-23+ MPG.

If it is a case of clutch gone whats the need to fit a T5 replacement with its age and my driving if a std clutch can fit. and cost a lot less.
and finally does it have to be a T5 replacement clutch or will another fit.
& save quite an amount ?
as its not going to be here for another 10years obviously.

I know its not a quick job to replace but I have a workshop and Pit here so not a case of laying on the drive struggling etc.

its done/shows 139K Kms on odometer. yet computer works on Miles is that very unusual ?

should I buy a clutch first or take old one off and inspect for grease/contamination/poss repair. etc ???

thanks for any advice
