1998 Volvo 940 estate

Hi All. I have a 1998 940 Volvo Estate. The steering is making a strange noise, sounds like hinges that need a good oiling. Steering is positive and no indication of what is happening. Has anybody had this problem? Would interested in any suggestions. Thanks.

Have you looked at the belt condition and tension? Have an assistant work the steering and see if you can pinpoint the source of the noise
