Changed the fuel filter on my XC70 today as I had a day off work.

Think King Kong must've tightened it last time it was changed... it was a right sod to get off. Had to use a 1 meter breaker bar on the (correct) filter tool to get it moving!

today i fitted a new top spring mount the centre had completely detached from the outer part. car feels so much better now

Sorted a intermittent rear light fault which I thought was the 4 led marker strip(it turned out to be something else)....however on further investigation its a ball ache to get the lower light cluster off....I think I'll leave that one.

In the above investigation I've managed to disturb the aftermarket rear parking sensor, it now doesn't work.

Bugger.

I'm also losing coolant or using it at a rate of an inch(as measured in the res) or so over 6 months. Is this usual??

Check the front right hand side of the carpet in the front passenger footwell, if it feels slippery or damp you will probably find a leak coming from the hose connector to the heater matrix - the seals can fail after a number of years.
NB you may also find a dried trace of coolant on the lower inner edge of the dashboard knee protector strip.
