Pierburg DVG problem/parts
Hi,
I've rescued a 1986 240GL estate, which having got it going, is now leaking petrol through the air inlet connection and running very rough due to over fuelling. I've stripped and cleaned the carb and reinstalled it and the problem persists (the diaphragm was ok and correctly positioned, the needle valve was cleaned and appeared to be ok). On reflection the plastic 'D' shaped float spindle holder was broken on one side.....which at the time (with my eyesight) I thought was the way it was supposed to be. The car has some MOT but is teetering toward being broken (despite its 72,000 miles) as I've just about had enough and it's not worth me spending any more time and money on it as the brakes need some work and the rear crossmember is very rusty (as is the tailgate) - hence I thought I'd ask whether anyone has one of these 'D' shaped holders, advice....or any spare Pierburgs/parts. It's a B230 manual and the carb has the yellow topped offset oil screw top. Thanks. Stuart |

Fixed it!
I managed to melt and reweld the 'D' shaped plastic float spindle holder using a small screw driver warmed under the hob......moving some plastic from the centre section to reinforce the area which had broken (the side nearest the needle valve. I bent the needle valve tab on the float to compensate for the very slight reduction in shape of the 'D' shaped holder. Car fired up and now runs sweet as nut. I write in case it helps others with similar over fuelling symptoms (as the breakage in the 'D' shaped float spindle holder is easy to miss/assume is designed that way - if a clean break) Stuart |

Brilliant, sounds like a good fix, I couldn't help with parts but it's such a shame when a car has to be broken because of a simple issue, I'll remember what you wrote, my Volvo uses the same carb but luckily I've had no issues with it! - I think if I did I would probably replace it for a weber,
