Question about to buy a 400 series:need advise

hello! i'm new here and a potential buyer of an older volvo for my son. really appreciate some advice pls. it's a 1991 460 gle 1.7, gasoline. belonged to an old lady, garage kept, only 70,000 km. it has power steering & windows, a/c. the guy who bought it from her is asking for 1,500Euros or 1,284.59 GBP. of couse i'll have my mechanic check it, but volvos aren't his specialty (nor mine). thanks much!

Well, i only experienced good things with my 460, it also matters how the car wa used. Firstly nearly all 440/460 have rear wheel arch rust problems. There can also be minor rust near the back, behind and above the petrol tank and above the muffler. Engine wise, there quite sturdy. Most commonly you may notice an unstable idle, and some engine vibration but you can find info in previously posted threads. These cars aren't too sophisticated compared to cars of today but minor electrical faults can happen (dashboard illumination, power windows, etc).
When buying ask the previous owner when the timing belt and tensioner, fluids, lubricants, filters were changed. If you don't get an answer, then it's best to change everything, that way you know everything is in order, and it also lengthens the lifespan of the components. Parts are quite expensive, especially ones that can only be ordered through a Volvo dealer (like rear suspension components, body parts), but some things can be obtained from the wreckers.
Also check the things you would check on any other car (tyres, brakes, clutch, lighting etc.)
