Default ABS fault

Hi all

Its been a while, but can anybody help me with my abs.

I recently changed my disks and pads on the front wheels, (460 2.0i L reg), the pads and disks were from halfords and were for the abs model.

I drove it a couple of times and it was fine, ie: it crunched after driving a short distance and the abs tested itself and the light went out. But after a few times it stopped, it doesnt crunch and the light stays on.
I have been told by a few people that i could have damaged a sensor when changing the brakes by pushing the caliper apart to fit the pads.
If so how can i test this or any other tests i can do to find the problem. Could it fail the mot because the brakes still work just no abs.

cheers all

lee

hey lee,
sounds like possible sensor damage - although why its intermittent is beyond me. as for failing the mot, im not 100% but i think as long as the wheels brake and look in good condition (which they will be if youve just changed pads/discs - only other thing can be ur brake lines) i think it will pass.

sorry cant be much more help.

matt.

hi I am interested to know whether you solved this prob. I have the prob of abs light on and it's taking forever to track the problem diagnostically not to mention costing a lot. Mine passed the mot because, i presuem, i had had new discs and pads all round. anyway i hope you did solve this and if you did any tips1 i would be very gratefully for any problem solving....thankyou.
